Introducing the Direct Debit experiment for recurring subs
Starting today, some viewers in the UK and EU countries that pay with euros might spot a new payment option for recurring subs. We’re rolling out an experiment that allows viewers to use Direct Debit when starting a new recurring sub. Set it up once, and you’re good to go. Meaning creators can keep playing and you can keep supporting. Win win.
How do I get this rolling?
If you’re part of the initial experiment, you’ll see the option when you subscribe to a channel for the first time. Simply choose ‘Direct Debit’ as your payment option when checking out, and boom!, your subs are now easier than ever.
If you already have a saved payment method, changing it is simple. When you subscribe to a channel you can update your preferred payment option to ‘Direct Debit’ when checking out.
When is this available?
This is an experiment, so not all viewers will see the Direct Debit payment option. We’re gradually increasing the number of users with access to the service, so it’s possible that you will be able to take part in the coming weeks. We’ll update the community on progress as we gather more information around how this new payment option is received and used.
I have more than one subscription. Do I have to change my payment method for each one?
Not at all. Once you change your payment method for one recurring subscription, it will automatically update for all subs on your account.
Can I purchase Bits, Turbo, or Gift Subs with Direct Debit?
The Direct Debit option is only available for recurring subscription purchases. When you purchase other products, you will be prompted to select another preferred payment method.
Can I overspend with Direct Debit?
Unlike a credit card, Direct Debit can only access money that’s available on your account balance. So if you don’t have enough funds in your account, your subs benefits will end. This gives you a safer and easier way to keep track of your subscription payments.
