A New Way to Cheer
We’ve now opened up the Cheering beta, inviting partnered streamers across the US, UK, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, and most of Europe to participate. That’s got a lot of you out there Cheering and having fun with the feature. Now that some expansion is out of the way, we’re back at work on adding new functionality. Next, we’re introducing something to make Cheering even more accessible.
Cheer without Spending
We’ve started rolling out a new way for Twitch viewers in the US to get Bits for activity on Twitch without spending cash. In this case, the activity is watching a 30-second interactive ad. Now when those of you in the US click “Get Bits”, you may soon have the option to choose a bundle to purchase, or select “Watch Ad”. If you select “Watch Ad”, you can watch a 30-second ad, or occasionally you’ll be asked to complete a short survey, and receive some Bits. Most of the time you’ll receive 5, but sometimes more, up to 100 Bits! There are limitations to the number of ads you can watch per day to get Bits.
We have started testing this feature with a small subset of viewers, and will start rolling it out more widely across the US in the coming weeks. Although only viewers in the US may obtain Bits from this program, they can use the Bits in any channel that has Cheering enabled, regardless of location.
So if you want to Cheer, but don’t have spare cash, you may have another option! This makes it possible for more of you to show support for streamers and participate in Cheering. This program is only active in the US, but we’ll be closely monitoring its success, listening to feedback and looking for ways to improve and expand to more users in the future.
