An Update On Whispers 2.0
At TwitchCon, we shared with you our vision for whispers. Today, we wanted to give you a preview of Whispers 2.0, what’s to come over the next few weeks, and how some of you may even play a part in shaping the final product.
Whispers Now
Chat is an incredibly powerful force on Twitch — it enables amazing community and friendships to form. When we introduced whispers earlier this year, we wanted to make it even easier for you to connect with others one on one. As you’ve continued to whisper, we’ve also seen opportunities to make the experience better: ensuring that critical messages get to you, reducing spam, and increasing cross-platform usability.
Over the next month, we’ll be releasing a series of updates to the product. Here’s what you can expect:
Whispers will be moved from global chat so they are easier to see and respond to. This means you’ll now have a dedicated view for your 1:1 messages.
Conversations will have docked and collapsible views to ensure that messages never interfere with your viewing experience.
Whispers will be continuously saved for future conversations (even if you’re offline) and available across every channel, whether you’re on web or mobile.
There will be better moderation options, such as the ability to block users 1:1 and easily report harassment or spam.
Whispers 2.0 on Web Beta
To ensure that Whispers 2.0 is a great chat experience, we’ll be doing an open beta today and invite you to participate. If you’d like to be part of the beta, you can opt-in by:
Visiting any channel page on web.
Clicking on the Chat Settings cog.
Select the button for Enable Whispers 2.0 beta.
If you’d like to opt-out of the beta at anytime, return to the Chat Settings cog and select Disable Whispers 2.0 beta.
If you need further support on how Whispers 2.0 works, we’ve also put together a FAQ here.
Whispers 2.0 on Mobile
While we gather beta feedback for whispers on web, we’ll also be making the feature available to mobile users soon. Stay tuned to our blog for more details.
