Twitch Announces Sponsorship of Apex World Circuit
Today, Twitch is proud to announce collaboration with the Apex World Circuit, the largest international tournament series for Super Smash Bros. and one of North America’s premier competitive gaming events.
Twitch is proud to sponsor Apex for the fourth consecutive year. Esports and competitive gaming have exploded over this time, and the meteoric rise of the Smash Bros. community during the last 18 months has been something truly special to behold. The authenticity and raw passion exhibited by Smashers around the globe is palpable, and Apex embodies this passion.
What does Twitch’s sponsorship of Apex mean for the Smash community? Twitch has committed $14,000 in pot bonuses for the Smash Bros. Melee events at all 14 Apex World Circuit qualifying events, awarding $1000 to the overall payout. But that’s not all! Twitch will accommodate travel and lodging for all 14 qualified players to the Apex grand finale this January 30-February 1 in Secaucus, New Jersey. Note: some qualifier dates may be subject to change.

“Apex has, and always will be, the Super Bowl for Smash. We are excited to work with Twitch to take our community to the next level,” said Johnathan Lugo, CEO of Apex.
“In 2009, I was one of the 52 players who signed up for Apex’s Super Smash Bros. Melee Singles event. I never would have imagined that for Apex 2014, I would be one of more than 600. As we approach 2015, Super Smash Bros. for Wii U is on the horizon, and thanks to Twitch’s generous support, each Apex World Circuit Qualifier has money, pride, and opportunity on the line. There’s going to be a lot for Smashers to talk about for the next 4 months,” said Bobby “Scar” Scarnewman, Twitch.
The qualifying points for each individual qualifier is as follows:
1st — 500 points
2nd — 350 points
3rd — 260 points
4th — 210 points
5th-6th — 160 points
7th-8th — 130 points
9th-12th — 100 points
13th-16th — 80 points
17th- 24th — 60 points
The top 16 in points will advance to the main bracket of Apex 2015.
