ESPORTS GAMING DOCUMENTARY DIE NOOBS SLATED FOR WORLDWIDE LIVE PREMIERE ON TWITCH ON AUGUST 29
Documentary follows the journey of two friends and the celebrities they encounter on the road to a professional video game tournament
LOS ANGELES — July 29, 2014 — Dead Noob Media today announced that the world premiere of Die Noobs, an esports gaming documentary, will be live broadcasted on Twitch, the world’s leading video platform and community for gamers. The celebrity-packed movie follows two gamers who meet in person for the first time and then set out together to compete in their first competitive gaming event. The film will air on www.twitch.tv/twitch on August 29, 2014 at 6pm PDT following PAX Prime. There will be a second airing on August 30 at 6pm PDT.
“One of the interesting aspects of Twitch is how aspiring film producers are now using our platform to showcase their gaming-related movies,” said Ben Goldhaber, Director of Content Marketing for Twitch. “Our community has really enjoyed this burgeoning trend, so the worldwide live premiere of Die Noobs represents the next in a long line of movies that will help shape the cinematic corner of our site.”
Can anyone become a professional gamer with the right amount of training and commitment? This film sets out to answer that question. Zack Below and Jason Rubek are two friends who played online video games together for well over a decade before deciding to finally meet up in real life with the goal of competing together in a professional gaming tournament. This launches a journey full of laughter and wonder, one that tests the limits of dedication and changes their lives forever. With less than one year to learn how to become “pros,” they enlist the help of champions from all walks of life and uncover tournaments with prize purses bigger than the Kentucky Derby and competitors who make up to seven-figure incomes.
The film’s star-studded cast includes Avenged Sevenfold’s M. Shadows, Superman Dean Cain, former UFC Heavyweight Champion Josh Barnett, Super Bowl Champion Tom Crabtree, NFL Punter Chris Kluwe, Playboy Playmate Pamela Horton, and dozens of professional gamers, casters and teams spanning three continents.
Die Noobs is the feature film directorial debut for director Erik Cieslewicz, a recipient of an Edward R. Murrow award for investigative journalism. Featuring an original soundtrack and throwback visual effects, Die Noobs will embolden fans of films like “King of Kong: A Fistful of Quarters” and Valve’s “Free to Play.”
“When Jason and I started on our journey, we had no idea if we could pull this off,” said Below. “This documentary started as a way for two gaming friends to finally meet up in real life, but it has become so much more than that. We hope our story inspires others to live the esports dream and play competitive video games with great friends, old and new. We couldn’t be more excited or proud to premiere our film to the world on Twitch.”
