Share Your Favorite Content with Host Mode
Introducing Host Mode — a new way to share live channels without leaving the comfort of your home chatroom.
What is Host Mode?
Imagine you’re done broadcasting for the day, and about to go offline. Rather than just signing off, Engage Host Mode! Your chatroom remains entirely the same, but your video player is replaced with an embedded version of whichever channel’s stream you decide to host. Now you and your chat community can continue to hang out even after you’ve gone offline.
Host mode gives a broadcaster the ability to host another channel’s live broadcast on his or her own channel page. Any broadcaster can host another channel, and any channel can be hosted. It works just like using an embedded player on another website, except it works directly on Twitch.
Why Should I Use Host Mode?
Keep your community together even when you’re offline.
Promote other broadcasters and share your favorite content with your audience.
Watch your favorite broadcasters and events with your friends on your own channel.
How Does Host Mode Work?
To host a channel, type /host channelname into your chat. For example, to share the (shameless plug) Twitch Weekly show with your audience, you would type /host twitch. Viewers on your channel will now see the broadcast from the channel you’re hosting. They’ll also see the broadcast title and be able to follow the hosted channel inline.
You can host one channel at a time, and up to three total in a given 30 minute period.
When you want to turn off host mode, type /unhost into chat.
Host mode is only available on the website for now.
What Happens When Someone Hosts My Stream?
It’s still your stream, so all the viewers will count towards the hosted channel’s count. Additionally, they’ll be able to follow and subscribe to your channel directly from the host channel’s page. If you’re a Twitch Partner, you continue to receive 100% of your advertising revenue share under your normal terms.
It’s very similar to having your stream embedded on a community website like http://www.teamliquid.net/video/streams/ or http://www.solomid.net/streams.
To be clear: the promoted broadcaster — not the hosting channel — will receive follows, views, and ad impressions (if a Partner) that come from any host channels in host mode.
