This weekend (July 11–13) on Twitch, Evolution Championship Series (Evo), the world’s largest and longest running fighting game tournament, marks its 18th anniversary with Evo 2014. In addition to thousands of top U.S. competitors, Evo also attracts the best of the best from around the world. The 2014 competition will feature over 800 international players from 47 different countries!
Evo 2014 is free for all Twitch viewers and begins on July 11th at 9 AM PST. Viewers who wish to participate in the chat and enjoy the unique Evo 2014 emoticons can purchase an event ticket for $12.00, with 100% of the proceeds benefiting a scholarship to New York University’s Game Center. Evo 2014 will feature competitions in Ultra Street Fighter IV, Ultimate Marvel Vs Capcom 3, Smash Bros. Melee, BlazBlue: Chrono Phantasma, Killer Instinct, Injustice: Gods Among Us, King of Fighters XIII, and Tekken Tag 2. This year, nearly 2000 players will compete for the Ultra Street Fighter IV title alone! Evo 2014 will also break the world record for the largest Smash Bros. Melee competition in the world, with 970 entrants.
In addition to the competitor prize pools, Evo 2014 features the following prize bonuses:
Aksys is adding a $25,000 bonus for BlazBlue: ChronoPhantasma, plus an additional $5,000 for the top finishing American and entry to the Arc Revolution Cup 2014.
The Capcom ProTour is adding $10,000 to the Ultra Street Fighter IV competition. The winner of the event is guaranteed a spot in December’s 16-man Capcom Cup invitational.
Razer is adding $10,000 to the Killer Instinct competition.
