Summer Games Done Quick 2014 Starts June 22
E3 was just the first of many, many great things on Twitch this summer. The next huge thing is Awesome Games Done Quick’s sister event: Summer Games Done Quick, which starts June 22 at 11 AM PDT (2 PM EDT, 7 PM CEST) on Twitch. For seven straight days, speedrunners will blaze through more than 150 games of choice. Both the old and the new are well represented: I Wanna Be The Boshy, Outlast, Octodad, Portal 2, Mega Man, Mischief Makers, Battletoads & Double Dragon, and Halo are just a few of the games on the list.
Naturally, popular speedrunners representing both Speed Demos Archive and SpeedRunsLive will be in attendance, including Cosmowright, Cirno, Calebhart, SpikeVegeta, and Essentia. These and many more runners will work together for a new SGDQ Personal Best, hopefully beating last summer’s $255,160 donation total. And once that’s done, why not go for the gold and try to match AGDQ’s more than $1 million raised in January?!
Like last year, Doctors Without Borders is the charity of choice. All donations from the SGDQ viewing page, as well as 100% of the money raised by Twitch subscriptions, will go to Doctors Without Borders, so you’ll be able to contribute on both the viewing page and the Twitch channel.
How do they do it? How is it possible to take a game like The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time and beat it in under half an hour? Hours upon hours upon hours of planning, routine, intense practice, and manipulating the game in fantastically subtle ways. This regiment, supplemented with incredible skill, mastery of glitches, encyclopedic knowledge, and impeccable timing, has built each runner into a guru of their game. If you’ve never seen a speedrun before, you’re in for a treat!
