Mining For Charity
On May 3 at 12 pm PT, Twitch will launch “Mining for Charity”, a large cross-collaboration project focused on growing community viewership while supporting charity. In partnership with Mineplex and utilizing 10 customized Minecraft mini-games, 4 teams comprised of 48 different casters will compete during a 4 week competition to obtain points. At the end of the competition, the team with the most points will be crowned the winning team and receive a $5,000 cash prize for the charity of their choice. Rounds will take place on Saturdays, May 3, May 10, May 17 and May 24, at 12 pm PT and last approximately 2–3 hours.
The event will be broadcast on the Mining for Charity Twitch channel and commentated by Crumps2, who will check in with each team at various points throughout each competition, as well as explain all of the rules and point breakdowns. Viewers will see a broad overview of the tournament via the main channel, as well as seeing individual views per the casters who are also encouraged to stream. Top Twitch and YouTube Minecrafters include BaconDonut, LanceyPooh, GiantWaffle, CaptainSparklez, Direwolf20, Soaryn, Bashurverse, and many, many more familiar faces.
During Week 3 (ending on May 17), Twitch will auction off the last rare white Twitch hoodie and a limited edition Minecraft+Twitch t-shirt, both signed by many of the participants and other Minecraft personalities. Proceeds from the sale of these items will be distributed to the charities of the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th place teams.
