Twitch iOS Version 2.3.3 Release

Loyal Twitch iOS Viewers –

We’re quite proud of the latest version of our iOS app (version 2.3.2) which fixed many of the lingering bugs that you may have experienced. Now, version 2.3.3 has hit the app store. See below for update notes on what to expect.

We have a long term goal of bringing the app’s QoS to parity with the website. In order to do that, there are a few things that need to go back to the drawing board.

First, the number of streams we can provide, at the quality our users have come to expect, is limited. The app offers access to the top 300 most viewed channels for now, and we are committed to expanding that number in the future. This is not intended to be a slight on smaller channels, which we feel are the lifeblood of the community. This is a necessary step in shoring up the QoS of the app with the eventual goal of making every stream available.

Second, since we’re limiting the number of channels available, the search functionality becomes much less useful. We’d rather not offer a search experience that doesn’t give the user a complete view of Twitch content. So, we’ve removed search in favor of discovery via the directory, which will show you complete results in terms of live content available via the app. As the number of channels available increases, we will rework the search function to match.

Third, we’ve announced a partnership with Kabam in which their free-to-play games are integrated into the Twitch website and mobile apps. You’ll see Kabam’s games available in the menu under “Play Games.”

This is the next step in an incremental process that will bring you the app we all want. Please put the new beta version through the paces and let us know what you think.
