Regarding Today’s Assorted Incidents

The good news is, Twitch was not hacked in any traditional sense. Our network was not compromised, we did not jam with the console cowboys in cyber space. Our Gibson’s are fine, as are your Twitch accounts.

The bad news is, through a miraculous feat of social engineering, a Twitch Admin account was compromised. This led to a number of partnered channels being closed, as well as general confusion as the person in control of the account impersonated this admin to cause general mischief.

We’d like to personally apologize for any confusion that was caused by this incident, whether it’s one of your favorite channels being closed (Sorry, Reckful) or channels being defaced (Sorry, Athene). We carry the weight of responsibility in this situation and, moving forward, we will be implementing new security measures to ensure that this can not be recreated.

That said, a little PROTIP from your friends here at Twitch. If anyone on the internet ever asks for your password: don’t give it to them. If your own mother messages you on Skype, and wants to know the password to anything, you tell her “Forget you, lady. I don’t owe you nothin’!” And then you tell her you love her because cool kids show respect to the woman who raised them.

We’ve gone ahead and reversed all the actions taken by the compromised account, and we will be checking in on the affected partners to ensure they’re properly informed of today’s events. Again, we apologize for the confusion and we will ensure that this will not be possible in the future. Thank you all very much for supporting Twitch.
