New Video Player Rolling Out Soon
In the very near future, we’ll be introducing a brand-new Twitch video player for all channels in what is a long coming rewrite of the current player. You may have already noticed it on a number of channels as we tested a new notification feature, and we’d like to tell you a bit more about it as we gradually roll it out across the site.
Aesthetically speaking, the new Twitch video player looks very similar to the old one, but with a few subtle tweaks and is more streamlined under the hood. The new player was rewritten from the ground up, and it features a host of new improvements.
In it’s current state, the new Twitch video player features smoother playback, better feedback for viewers to help improve their viewing experience, and the rewrite allows our engineers to implement new features and improvements faster than ever before. In the future, we’ll be working to improve the interface, as well as introduce a more robust API so that developers can build even greater apps that use our player.
At Twitch we’re constantly striving to be the best platform for gamers, period. There’s a ton of projects in the works from the new video player, channel pages, Twitch Turbo, and that’s just scratching the surface. It’s an exciting year, for sure, and we’re still just getting started.
